1. Add your first transaction: Click "Add Transaction" in the sidebar. Fill in the type (Income/Expense), date, amount, category, and vendor. Click "Add Transaction" to save.
2. Set up Workspaces: Go to Workspaces to add personal finances, a business, a nonprofit, or another activity. Each Workspace has its own categories and budgets.
3. Set a budget: Go to Budget Goals, select a month, and enter monthly limits for each spending category. The dashboard will show progress bars.
Go to Transactions โ Import Statement. Export a CSV from your bank (usually under "Download Transactions"). Upload the CSV, map the columns (Date, Vendor, Amount), review the auto-categorized transactions, and click Import. Finhover remembers your column mapping for next time.
Workspaces show what a transaction is for. Financial Accounts show where the money came from or went. One bank account or credit card can be used across several Workspaces.
Go to Settings โ Backup & Restore and click "Export Backup." This saves all your data (transactions, accounts, budgets, goals, everything) as a JSON file. To restore, click "Restore Backup" and upload the file. Back up regularly โ your data lives only in your browser.
Auto-Sort Rules automatically categorize and route transactions. Go to Auto-Sort Rules and create a rule like: "If vendor contains FACEBOOK โ move to Business account โ set category: Sales & Marketing." Click "Apply All Rules" to retroactively apply rules to existing transactions.
Is my data safe? Yes. All data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server.
Where is my data stored? In your browser's localStorage on this specific computer and browser. It does not sync across devices automatically.
Can I use Finhover on multiple computers? Yes โ export a backup on one computer and restore it on another. The backup includes everything.
What if I clear my browser cache? This will erase your data. Always export a backup before clearing browser data.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes. Open the file on a local server (use start-server.bat) and visit the address on your phone's browser while on the same WiFi.

Connect your own Google Drive to automatically back up your data to a "Finhover Backups" folder. Your data stays in your Drive โ Finhover never stores it on any server. Finhover can only access files it creates.

- Go to console.cloud.google.com โ APIs & Services โ Credentials.
- Enable the Google Drive API.
- Create an OAuth client ID (type: Web application).
- Add this page's address under Authorized JavaScript origins.

Note: Google sign-in won't work when the file is opened directly from disk (file://). Host the page (or use a local server) so it has a real web origin.
